Avid Hip Hop fans are always disappointed with the Billboard awards, their latest frustration is with Iggy Azalea winning the awards for “Top Rap Artist” and “Top Rap Song” at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. It is essential to understand the award process – the BBMAs are based on the year-end chart performance of the artists according to Nielsen data for sales, number of downloads and total airplay. In other words, it’s all about statistics, not the subjective opinion of a voting academy.
Once you get past that fact, you’ll realize that it is as it should be, in this particular Award event only the numbers matter. You can’t complain about artists winning by their numbers and in the same breath complain about the about MTV Music Awards and The Grammys not selecting the artists you believe are more disservin’. Can’t have it both ways.
50 Cent, the originator of making it all about the numbers weighs in on Iggy’s wins.
